Macmillan Professionals Excellence Awards recognises nurses’ contribution to cancer care

  • Comment

The Macmillan Professionals Excellence Awards 2013 are to acknowledge and celebrate the exceptional contribution Macmillan health and social care professionals make to cancer services.

Winners will receive widespread recognition for their work among their peers, employers and the wider health and social care community, as well as the public.

Macmillan say that successful nominees’ achievements will reflect as much on the services and organisations they work for as on their own contributions.

In 2012 Dr Jane Winter, Macmillan consultant colorectal nurse at Southampton General Hospital, was awarded for implementing patient-triggered follow up for people with colorectal cancer using a holistic needs assessment.

Patients now receive a personalised follow-up programme, improving their patient experience and sense of independence, and the colorectal service’s productivity has also increased.

Macmillan is encouraging colleagues of Maacmillan nurses to nominate those who have demonstrated a positive impact on the lives of people affected by cancer through exceptional leadership.

Other types of Macmillan professionals, such as Macmillan information and support managers, speech therapists, dieticians, GPs and  social care workers can also be nominated.
