Chesterfield nurses celebrate 'gold standard' accreditation for endoscopy unit

  • Comment

The nurse-led endoscopy team at a Derbyshire Hospital has been awarded “gold standard” accreditation for its quality and patient care.

The Chesterfield Royal Hospital’s endoscopy unit has been fully accredited by the Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, viewed as the gold standard for the highest standard in terms of safety, quality and the training of its staff.

Ian Fretwell, nurse consultant colorectal and endoscopy, said: “It’s the culmination of close to two years’ work.

“What was most pleasing was a note they added at the bottom of the accreditation report that ‘the nursing team should be congratulated on their persistence and resilience during a prolonged post visit reassessment and sign off’.”

He added: “Hopefully we can now build on this success and look to the next stage of our development and future proofing for the next five to 10 years.”
