Secondary breast care nurse appointed to regional hospital

  • Comment

Colchester Hospital University Foundation Trust has become the first in the region to appoint a specialist nurse to support breast cancer patients where the disease has spread to other organs and usually become incurable.

Becky Rix, who is based at Essex County Hospital, is one of only 19 secondary breast care nurses in the UK and the first to be based in the NHS East of England region.

She said: “We see about 350 newly-diagnosed cases of breast cancer every year and about 30-40 breast cancer patients with secondary disease.”
