Guidelines not enough to change practice

Guidelines and conferences alone are not effective to change the practice of clinicians, according to a US doctor.

Rhode Island cardiologist James Arrighi warned simple educational approaches using “passive learning methods” are not effective in altering behaviour.

He recommends multimedia and interactive approaches such as role playing, peer discussions and case-based learning.

He said: “Education is not dead; it’s just a little more complicated than it used to be.”
