Nurse gains European recognition for work in cardiology

  • Comment

Scunthorpe nurse Karen Dunderdale has been awarded the title of Nurse Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology.

The title of Nurse Fellow is a prestigious honour granted to very few – only two others in Europe have been successfully nominated this year.

Nurses are honoured only in exceptional circumstances and Dr Dunderdale was nominated for her continued dedication to the field of cardiology.

This award comes after Dr Dunderdale became the first nurse within the North Lincolnshire and Goole Foundation Trust to earn the title of Doctor after being awarded a PhD.

Karen was delighted to accept her title at the 2008 European Society of Cardiology’s 2008 Congress. She said: ‘It is a great honour and privilege to be awarded with the title Nurse Fellow.’

‘I am extremely passionate about the work I do,’ she added. ‘It is nice to be able to play a part in putting Scunthorpe General Hospital on the map.’
