Tranexamic acid within the hour of injury saves lives

  • Comment

An hour can make the difference between life and death when using tranexamic acid to treat injured patients with severe bleeding, according to researchers.

They compared patients who received tranexamic acid less than one hour post-injury; between one and three hours; or more than three hours.

Receipt within an hour reduced mortality risk by more than 30% compared with placebo.

Treatment between one and three hours cut the risk by 20%, but there was no benefit if treatment was delayed beyond three hours.
