Consultation to look at new pain benchmarks

  • Comment

A new Essence of Care benchmark on pain management is to be created, the 12th in the series.

A Department of Health focus group has drawn up best practice standards for the benchmark, and it has now been put out to consultation until October.

Proposals to include pain management in the Essence of Care system were put forward by the focus group that has been reviewing all 11 existing benchmarks.

The group, made up of patients, carers and NHS staff, has also put forward changes to the current Essence of Care benchmarks, which cover areas including communication, personal hygiene, record-keeping, safety and self care.

The consultation on the reviewed benchmarks also closes in October.
