The jury has been discharged in the trial of a staff nurse accused of killing three patients and poisoning 18 more at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport.
The trial of 49-year-old Victorino Chua, who pleaded not guilty to 36 charges including three counts of murder, began at Manchester Crown Court earlier this week.
However, the judge announced today that he was discharging the jury after learning one of the jurors had suffered recent family problems.
His honour Mr Justice Openshaw said he did not want to continue with just 11 jury members at this early stage in what are expected to be lengthy court proceedings.
The trial is expected to begin again on 26 January when a new jury will be selected.
