PN pay rise doubt

  • Comment

A VIRTUAL pay freeze for GPs this year could spell no salary increase for practice nurses.

The pay review body for doctors’ proposal would result in a net increase of just 0.2% to the average practice.

Lynn Young, RCN primary care adviser, said: ‘If general practice has its funding limited then of course it will trickle down to nurses’ pay because they are joined at the hip.’

Figures gathered by the government-funded Personal Social Services Research Unit found that the basic salary of a PN had fallen from £23,355 in 2005 to £21,118 in 2006.
