Statins 'lower pneumonia risk'

  • Comment

Patients taking statins appear to be at reduced risk of pneumonia, a Nottingham University study has found.

Researchers looked at 17,755 cases of patients aged over 45 with pneumonia and 80,484 patients of a similar age who did not develop pneumonia during the 10 year study.

They found current use of atorvastatin or simvastatin reduced the risk of pneumonia risk by 30%.

The study involved 443 UK general practices.
