Alcohol consumption knowledge 'lacking' amongst younger people, says study

Most younger people lack the “knowledge and skills” required to drink in accordance with government guidelines, according to study published in the Drug and Alcohol Review.

Sussex University researchers surveyed 309 school pupils and 125 university students.

The students also reported their alcohol consumption and were asked to pour their “usual” drinks.

The authors said: “Participants’ usual drinks were substantially larger than one unit, and participants tended to underestimate the unit content of drinks.”

  • Since when did students drink in accordance with guidelines ? Not when I was a student, anyway.

However, I must admit that working out exactly how much alcohol is in whatever you happen to be drinking, is quite a challenge, especially if you are pouring your own drinks in glasses of unknown volume ! And I say that, as someone who could in theory (were I bothered enough to do it) actually work it out - many people don't have the maths to work it out, even if they wanted to !
