Alcohol contributes to hospital complications

Trauma patients who used drugs or alcohol before their injury are more likely to develop complications in hospital, according to a US study.

The study looked at data on 200,000 hospital cases.

Infection was found to be a significant risk for both alcohol and drug related trauma patients, compared to other trauma patients, and drug users also had a higher risk of circulatory complications.
