NICE has issued draft guidance on the management of psychosis, with co-existing substance misuse, for adults and young people.
The guidelines recommend healthcare professionals in all settings routinely ask adults or young people with known or suspected psychosis about alcohol and drug use.
They also call on secondary care mental health services not to exclude those with psychosis and co-existing substance abuse from age-appropriate mental healthcare and say all inpatient services should ensure they have procedures for promoting a therapeutic environment free from drugs and alcohol.
