Recommendations made for use of negative pressure wound therapy

International researchers have devised 12 recommendations for the use of negative pressure wound therapy in the treatment of traumatic wounds and reconstructive surgery, after reviewing more than 192 studies into the use of the vacuum assisted technique.

The panel, which included clinical nurse specialists and plastic surgeons, recommended it could be beneficial in preventing the progression of burn wounds and should be considered in wounds with a high risk of graft loss.
