Polycystic ovaries increase health risk for pregnant women

  • Comment

Polycystic ovary syndrome increases the risk of problems during pregnancy, according to Swedish researchers online in the BMJ.

They studied 3,787 births among women with the syndrome and 1.2 million births in women without it.

They found those with the syndrome were 45% more likely to experience pre-eclampsia and twice as likely to give birth prematurely or develop gestational diabetes.

The authors said: “These women may need increased surveillance.”
