A new moderate-release version of a colitis drug has been launched in the UK.

Mesalazine 800mg Modified Release (Asacol) tablets are now available for the treatment of mild to moderate acute exacerbations of ulcerative colitis, and the maintenance of remission in UC and Crohn’s ileo-colitis patients.

The product, made by Procter & Gamble, is indicated for the treatment of mild (2.4 g/day) and moderate (4.8 g/day) acute exacerbations of ulcerative colitis, to be administered in divided doses.
