Community nurse wins trip to Russia

  • Comment
A community matron from Surrey has won a bursary to spend two weeks in Russia working with the Moscow Red Cross.

Janice Roberts, who works for Central Surrey Health social enterprise, has been awarded the Queen’s Nursing Institute ‘Vera Lebedeva Travel Bursary’ – a new scheme announced in September.

As part of the same project, two Russian nurses from the Moscow Red Cross have won a bursary to come to Surrey in spring this year.

Ms Roberts said: ‘This is an exciting way to see the county and meet its people. I am very honoured to have achieved this award.’

The bursary was awarded in honour of Russian nurse Vera Lebedeva who, before her death in 2006, was hailed as a ‘modern Florence Nightingale’.
