The independent NHS pay review body must be protected, according to a resolution passed by congress.
It follows the government’s move last year to ignore the PRB and stage the pay award, and this year’s push for the PRB’s recommendation to form part of a multi-year deal.
The resolution, to ‘protect and maintain’ the PRB, was passed unanimously by 99.4%. ‘I fear for the future of nursing without a PRB’, said proposer Sheila Maye from RCN Doncaster branch.
Islington branch member Cecilia Anim added the profession needed a PRB ‘with teeth’ and that without it nurses would be faced with going back to local pay negotiations.
