Diabetes services for young people in England variable

  • Comment
Services for children and young people with diabetes remain patchy across England, a government report has warned.

According to a progress report on the Diabetes National Service Framework, published last week, there are a ‘number of challenges to be addressed’ in the management of diabetes in children and young people.

‘Although service provision for children and young people has improved significantly, current diabetes care can be variable and does not always meet the needs of this very special group,’ the report says.

It adds that the number of children with access to paediatric diabetes nurse specialists has increased but access to emotional and psychological support still needs to be improved.
