I am totally gobsmacked that something like this can occur in the NHS today,What absolute carelessness. Whatever is happening in the nursing profession today.Youve staff nurses sat on their backsides at computers all day. Never bedbath a patient as its below them. Now this!!! I must admit Im not surprised due to the uncaring and obnoxious attitude of some of todays nurses. Thank goodness I'm retired !

Its not just trying to get back into nursing its trying to continue past retirement I retired and wanted to continue on the bank Because I would now be employed by NHSP that supplies bank nurses I was asked after 37 years working in same hospital the last few years as night Manager in charge of the Hospital to go and sit an exam at Manchester University!!!!!! Why could they not take references from the hospital where I had worked for all these years. Needless to say I wouldnt lower myself after 50 years i the NHS. They dont know how to keep hold of good experienced nurses !

  • Comment on: Wards dangerously understaffed, warn more than half of nurses

    Enid Martland's comment 3 February, 2013 7:59 pm

You can report lack of staff until your blue in the face but no-one does anything about it I went on duty one night as night sister to find a ward had 4 patients with a 1 staff nurse and 1 health care assistant and another ward had 26 patients and 1 staff nurse and 1health care assistant.None had done anything earlier in the evening, so it was down to me to start closing the ward with 4 patients and moving those patients and staff to the other ward I explained to the patients I was moving the the other ward was unsafe and I couldn't justify leaving 4 patients on a ward.I apologised as it was about 10pm They weren't happy but I explained that my job wouldnt allow me to risk the safety of patients and staff.Did I get thanked by management for doing my job efficiently.No.I also got a letter from PALS with a complaints letter from the patients I had moved.I'd worked there for 37 years and never had any complaints about me and this was all down to lack of staff .I'm retired now and so pleased to be out of thankless job.

Ive never heard anything like this. The managers are probably seething as they would have been on their Xmas break with their families and not thought of doing this. Some very kind thoughtful caring nurse has thought of it instead and it wont suit!!!! I would love to have seen the joy on those childrens faces, and as someone said it was probably the best medicine in the world .
