Essex trust staff in strike threat

  • Comment
Hospital staff in Essex are threatening to strike over a decision to offer them a 2% pay rise this year.

Staff at Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust have traditionally been on local pay scales and its foundation status allows it to opt out of Agenda for Change, meaning it is free to offer a pay rise.

Trust HR director Sandra Le Blanc said: ‘It is the trust’s intention to give staff the value of 2% pay uplift now. Should the national pay award be more than 2% the trust will revisit with staffside and should a further settlement be agreed this will be backdated.’

But Nick Bradley, Unison regional officer, said: ‘We are recommending our staff to reject the pay rise and we are asking them if they are prepared to take industrial or strike action.’
