A large percentage of teenagers are having underage sex, and one in 20 before they were 12, according to a survey.
The survey of 2,750 people aged between 16 and 30 was conducted by Fusion Condoms and asked them questions about when they first had sex.
Nearly two thirds (60%) of teenagers have at least once chosen not to purchase condoms because they considered them expensive.
South Asian teenagers are also much less likely than Afro-Caribbean or white teenagers to get condoms from their GP and a high proportion said they had a poor service from their health clinic.
Shandip Shah, managing director of Fusion Condoms, said: ‘This survey is a big wake up call to anyone and everyone concerned with the health of our youngsters.
‘Health practitioners, schools, parents, internet forums and businesses must all work together to give clear cut advice.’
