Growing success for cadet scheme

  • Comment
A successful nursing cadet scheme in Lincolnshire has been expanded to meet high demands.

The scheme, which encourages local young people to think about careers in nursing, was set up in 1999 and originally took just 10 cadets at Lincoln County Hospital.

It has now been rolled out across Pilgrim Hospital, Boston and Grantham and District Hospital and the number of places available has risen to 29.

Scheme Manager for ULHT, Maxine Skinner, said ‘We have expanded the scheme due to public demand, popularity and the need for local nurses to be trained.

'We recruit 16 to 17-year-olds with an interest in the nursing profession and give them valuable real experience across all areas of the hospital.’
