Guidance on children's cancer services published

The government has published draft guidance that sets out minimum requirements for nursing staff in children’s cancer services.

Drawn up by the National Cancer Peer Review Programme, the Manual for Cancer Services provides a best practice guide that services will be able to use as a comparison tool.

Recommendations in the report include assessment of oncology nursing workload, that all oncology ward nurses and recommendations that about their training.

They also contain minimum staffing requirement and protocol recommendations.

Anyone wishing to make their own recommendations has until 30 January 2009 to make a response.
