Clinical trials of drugs and technologies will be able to be set up faster in the future under a new deal struck between the Department of Health and the pharmaceutical industry.
The updated model will see a one off agreement made between the NHS and drug companies wanting to run drug trials rather than separate agreements having to be established with individual trial sites as happens now, according to health minister Andy Burnham.
'This agreement will mean patients getting faster access to effective drugs and treatment and the NHS will also save money by reducing bureaucracy as this single agreement can be used by all trusts,? he added.
