Over a quarter of school and college leavers say their ideal job is in the healthcare sector, according to a poll by City and Guilds.
Healthcare came top of a list of dream jobs, beating law, advertising and public relations.
Magda Hebe, healthcare specialist at City & Guilds, said: 'For those wanting to travel the world, healthcare provides the opportunity to take skills abroad and the industry's justly deserved reputation as a good employer is clearly encouraging young people to view it as a career of choice.
'In popular TV programmes such as 'Holby City', 'ER' and 'Grey's Anatomy', the media's portrayal of hospitals as fun, dynamic places to work has also had an impact,' she added.
The online survey involved 1,025 people aged 16 to 25, and was carried out by YouGov on behalf of the vocational training body.
