Situations like this can be difficult and disheartening but there are a few things that you could try and see if they help. Firstly you could become more active in lectures by asking topics related to the topic if your lecturer starts to stray from the subject. If this doesn’t work you may have to spend some time working through your modules on your own. Read through the powerpoints or online resources and make as much sense of the topics as you can before and after the lecture if needed. Alternatively you could speak to the module leader and arrange for them to go through some topics with you out of lecture time(if they will agree to this). It’s good that you’re aware that your learning needs are not being met but unfortunately you may have to bring this up with someone more senior and spend some time doing independent study. The fact that you’ve written in about this issue shows that you’re proactive and focussed on your learning and I have no doubts that you’ll be able to get your head around the topics using the resources available to you. Hi,I completely understand your situation and it’s one of the many struggles I also find whilst being on placement. I am also yet to find a simple solution to this problem but I have a few tips that I try and stick to.
As annoying as it is, meal prepping can be cheap and healthy. I find that if I’m working 3 13 hour shifts a week the best thing I can do on my day off is make a big batch of pasta and veggies and add different sauces and meat to make a few different meals that I can take into work or leave in the fridge for when I get home. Frozen vegetables keep for a long time and are so easy and quick to cook. A slightly more expensive alternative if you’re too tired on your day off is to buy healthy ready meals. Supermarkets have a huge selection with all of the nutritional information on which allows you to choose food that you like but is healthier than take aways.
If you live away from home with other people you could offer to cook for your flat mates on a day off in return for them cooking for you when you finish work.
Don’t punish yourself for having a take away every once in a while, sometimes it hits the spot after a busy day and that’s fine! If you get for example a Chinese takeaway meal one night you could eat half of it and add some extra vegetables and save the other half for the next day. I suppose it’s all about finding what works for you but I’d definitely recommend trying a bit of meal prep and stocking up when you go to the supermarket so that you only have to go once a week or once every two weeks so that you can rest on your days off.
