Craig Davidson, third year, adult nursing, Glasgow Caledonian University

Hello, my name is Craig. I am in my third year studying adult nursing at Glasgow Caledonian University where I am also school officer and secretary for our Nursing Society.

While studying, I have developed a real passion for oncology and palliative care. It is an absolute privilege and honour to be one of the new Student Nursing Times editors – I cannot wait to get started.

My mum is a nurse, so nursing has always been a big part of my life. But I came into nursing as a second career having trained and worked professionally as an actor for 12 years.

Although my life has turned out differently to how I originally anticipated, my experiences have shaped me and given me many skills, which I hope will make me a better nurse. Because what I believe we all have in common as student nurses is a desire to make a difference to the lives of those who need us most.

I am a passionate advocate of the student’ voice and champion nursing students. I sit on the Royal College of Nursing’s UK Students’ Committee and encourage all students to make themselves politically aware and engage in discussions and debate around the profession; we are the future workforce and leaders who can affect real change.

I intend to write about student mental health support, student funding, and making the profession as diverse and inclusive as the communities we serve, among others. But most importantly, I want to open a dialogue to find out what you think and what you want to hear about.
