Chief nurse for integrated services for children with disabilities, Achieving for Children
Joan is an associate director for health services and chief nurse for integrated services for children with disabilities at Achieving for Children, an award-winning social enterprise in Richmond and Kingston.
She is the organisation’s strategic lead for health staff working across health, education and social services.
Joan qualified as a general nurse at Lewisham Hospital. then specialised in paediatric nursing at Guy’s Hospital.
She has set up and developed several community children’s nursing service across London. She became the first nurse consultant for community children’s services in the UK in 2003.
In 2012 Joan received an Outstanding Community Nursing Service award from the QNI, she is also a Queen’s nurse.
Her OBE for services to children and nursing was received in 2013. Joan was voted one of the top 50 most Inspirational Leaders NHS in 2013 by the Health Service Journal and was listed as one of the top 50 Leaders in NHS in the Nursing Times in 2014.
In 2015, Joan received an honorary doctorate from Middlesex Joan is a 2017 Florence Nightingale leadership scholar. Joan has a charity which feeds and educate 25 orphan and vulnerable children Kenya.
