Third year, mental health nursing, University of Plymouth
Hi, I’m Felicity, a final year student mental health nurse at the University of Plymouth.
I’m so excited to be your Student Nursing Times editor for mental health for this year, as it combines several of my passions: research, writing and mental health!
I really hope I can raise some topics over the next year to make you think, make you smile and make you question some assumptions about what it means to be a mental health nurse. I also hope to inspire some people to consider careers in research.
I have been diagnosed with depression, anxiety and eating disorder, which is one of the main reasons I am pursuing a career in mental health nursing: I’ve been on the receiving end of both good care and bad, and am able to critique practice based on my experiences. This is a framework that I hope will make for useful and interesting reading!
Outside work, I like new experiences, everything from dressing up for the ballet to dressing down for camping. I love to travel and try to hit at least one new country every year. In 2018 it was Finland, for the European Network of Nursing in Higher Education Intensive Programme (ENNE IP).
This is such an exciting and challenging time to be a student nurse, especially in mental health, and I am thrilled that I’ll have you with me in my final year!
