Kate Forsyth, third year, adult nursing, King’s College, London
Hello there! I’m Kate, I’m 20 and I’m a third year nursing student at King’s College London.
I went to university straight from sixth form knowing I wanted to help and care for people; but looking back it seems naïve that I didn’t know the effect the people who I would meet would have on my life.
The job satisfaction is like no other. Too often I think nurses are told that they don’t know enough or that they’re not clever enough. But times are changing thank goodness! It’s out with the old fashioned view and in with the new.
I hope you learn vicariously through my own experiences. I know how helpful it is when you know you’re not alone. I have always wanted to document the things I have learnt as a student nurse, but until now, I had never quite found the right outlet.
As a Nursing Times Student editor, I want to be able to divulge all the gossip, gore and great things we do as student nurses. So often we hear about the bad things, that we’re professional bottom wipers but we’re so much more than that!
Student nurses are so integral to the NHS that I hope I do you all justice by being your voice on this little section of the Internet – after all we are the future.
If I can just make you feel a bit better when you’re stressed or inspire you to push yourself when you feel like you can’t do it, then I think that would be a job well done.
