Chief nurse, University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust
Liz Rix was appointed in her current role in 2011 after the University Hospitals of North Midlands was formed when the Royal Stoke University Hospital and the County Hospital, Stafford were brought together to create a new trust. Liz has led staffing and quality governance through this transition.
She is clear that being a nurse on a trust board provides the profession with a privileged opportunity to influence the delivery and design of services. She is passionate about patient safety and care developing a Proud to Care Framework.
She has driven quality and safety within her organisation. Liz and her team have developed a clear process of self-assessment and accreditation which delivers consistent standards.
From a workforce perspective the development of safe staffing models, embedding these and then monitoring for effectiveness and efficiency. This has been achieved through the empowerment of nurses and allied health professions to use their influence and knowledge in raising and sustaining the standards of care provided.
