Applying and interviewing for a new job can be incredibly stressful, and Elaine Strachan-Hall knows it, which is why she’s decided to help out candidates who are attending Nursing Times Careers Live.
Her interview tips include:
- Read the advert and follow the invite
- Match your application to the specification or advert
- Always complete the application form
- Prepare well
- Know the organisation and the panel
- Answer the question
- Tell the panel what you would do or have done
- Give an example of the impact you have had or expect to have
- Mention patients
- Don’t forget the feedback
Ms Strachan-Hall also has a simple framework to help people with their answers to interview questions, which she’ll be teaching to attendees.
She has experience not getting jobs she’s wanted, which drove her to speak at Nursing Times Careers Live.
“I applied for a role and wasn’t successful, and I recognised that I needed some help in terms of applying for a job, not just with the interview, but with the stuff that comes before that”.
Ms Strachan-Hall is the clinical director at Healthcare at Home, a post she’s had since November 2014, and wants to share the joy she’s found at her dream job with others.
“If I can help people who are applying for jobs and help them find what I’ve found, that would be great”.
She’ll also help with expressing the skills and abilities you’ve gained from training and work experience both verbally and in writing.
The conference will include the opportunity to meet recruiters from all over the country, including headline sponsor Healthcare at Home, as well as discussions on revalidation.
