Two-thirds of nurses working with homeless people have had no specific training, according to the Queen’s Nursing Institute.
Of the 100 nurses who replied to the QNI survey 40% also said they felt isolated in their roles and 74% work alone.
The results were announced to coincide with the launch of the QNI’s Homeless Health Initiative which will train nurses to cope with the demands of dealing with homeless.
A forum to help nurses working alone share information has also been set up.
Kate Tansley, initiative co-ordinator said: ‘The initiative will help to improve the care which can be offered and thus help homeless people move forward with their lives.’
