Homes told to be ready for checks

  • Comment
Nursing homes have been advised to do dry-run inspections to make sure they are prepared for the new star rating system being introduced later this year.

The Registered Nursing Home Association (RNHA) has recommended that homes carry out rigorous self-assessment before formal visits by the Commission for Social Care Inspection.

RNHA chief executive officer Frank Ursell said: ‘It is abundantly clear that, to support their claims for a good star rating, nursing homes need well-documented evidence to show that they are performing well.’

He added: ‘Whether or not you think star ratings are a good idea is irrelevant. The fact is that a star rating system is being introduced. The debate about the basic principle is over.’
