How to apply for pre-registration nurse training programmes

This page briefly describes when and how to apply for pre-registration nursing programmes.

Diploma of Higher Education programmes – when to apply

Many higher education institutions (HEIs) offer more than one start date (“multiple start dates”) for their diploma programmes (e.g. September, January and April). When applying for diploma programmes, you will be asked to indicate which start date you are applying for.

If you want to apply for a course that starts before September, you must check with the universities and colleges if you need to apply before the 15 January deadline.

If you are applying for a course with a September start date, then follow the details for applying for degree programmes below.

Degree programmes – when to apply

Applications for degree programmes should be submitted the autumn of the year before the course starts. Applications for the courses should normally be forwarded to UCAS between 1 September and 15 January.

Applications received between 16 January and 30 June will be considered as late applications. Any application received after this period will be subject to clearing.

Diploma and degree programmes – how to apply

Applications for pre-registration nursing programmes at diploma, degree and accelerated programmes for graduates should be made through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).

The vast majority of applications are made on line through the UCAS website. If you cannot apply online, please contact UCAS directly for further information.
