A Nottinghamshire intensive care nurse is to travel to Boston in the US to learn about the latest developments in ventilator treatment.

Sister Fran Taylor, from Bassetlaw Hospitals' intensive care unit, has won a scholarship to spend two weeks in the New EnglandSinaiHospital in Boston, Massachusetts. She intends to investigate how a specialist 'weaning' centre at the US hospital manages long-term ventilated patients.

She said: 'I hope that I can then adapt these ideas to a UK setting and continue to improve the care we give our long-term ventilated patients.'

On her return, Ms Taylor will give a presentation to the North Trent Critical Care Network.
