Research presented at the International Continence Society conference in Cairo has found Vaginal pessaries to be effective in relieving prolapse symptoms

Vaginal pessaries are an effective and simple method of alleviating symptoms associated with pelvic organ prolapse according to research presented at the International Continence Society conference in Cairo.

The prospective study was conducted between 2002 and 2007 and included 322 women who chose to be treated with a pessary.

All women completed a Sheffield prolapse symptom questionaire before insertion of the pessary and 6 and 12 months following insertion.

Patients reported a significant improvement in vaginal symptoms, bladder symptoms and quality of life.
