  • Comment on: 'Legislative change alone is not a panacea to the critical shortage of donor organs'

Absolutely correct Greg changing the law may help but fundamentally we need to address the continued misunderstanding of a large number of the general public.
We know that organ donation can help a lot of people with their grief in that other people have benefited from the loss of their loved one, however I believe we should have a sustained campaign throughout the year that highlights donor families. I find it disappointing that the public supported broadcasting corporations cannot feature documentaries telling the donor families stories this would have a massive impact
All of us who have been involved in organ donation know the powerful impact these individuals have when they present at our conferences and educational days, one would presume from this that the same effect would be had in a TV documentary.
Let’s hope that the on going rise in the number of organ donors can be sustained to allow us to finally irradiate the statistic of 3 deaths per day on the transplant waiting list.
