Job checks to be more stringent

  • Comment
Updated national standards have been published by NHS Employers to ensure trusts are complying with mandatory pre-employment checks

Published as a set of six booklets they are designed to help employers meet both legislation and NHS policy and to give assurance to patients and staff. While there are no new pre-employment checks, some good practice has become mandatory including face-to-face identification checks and holding photo identification on file.

Sian Thomas, NHS Employers’ acting director, said: ‘The systems for vetting applicants are continually being strengthened and improved so that patients, the public and staff themselves can have confidence in the staff who treat them.’
