    Hi Victoria

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing this . I too had a similar problem at one of my placements.

Luckily I was only there for a week but it was the longest week of my course so far !

My advice would be to firstly speak to your university .They are there to support you and have to respond to your concerns.

Secondly , however hard it is for you right now I would take this experience and turn it into a positive . What you are seeing is a minority and not all nurses are like this . You have worked hard to get to this point so please do not allow these people to take that away from you .

Reflect on your experience and know that you will never become like these nurses or act towards others ;as they have to you.

Keep being the compassionate nurse that you are and you will look back on this as a positive learning curve (Maybe not yet but you will )

Good luck and please keep going

    Hi Timothy

Thank you for your comments . It is good to find someone else who has an interest in this area.

Totally agree that we should be covering substance misuse in all branches of nursing;would make a massive difference to the care that is provided.

Hope your course goes well ! Keep in touch and let me know how it goes

  • Comment on: Seeking out opportunities: Do student nurses need to network?

    leanne siekiera's comment 22 December, 2014 8:24 pm

    Hi Rebecca

Great blog ! We run a service at our campus where extra opportunities are sought out and offered to students. It has proven to be beneficial and great for enhancing the nursing curriculum. We have students representing in a variety of forums /meetings within the acute trust and they have the same input as those in lead positions. Feedback has shown that networking and extra curricular activities are improving confidence and knowledge !

Ask yourself do you really just want to scrape through ? This is 3 years of your life make the most of the opportunity. Do the best that you can do ! You don't have to get top marks but if you get a mark that you have worked hard for then surely that is far more rewarding that just getting by.
