A group of care home nurses in Wales are to visit healthcare organisations in Finland as part of an exchange programme designed to improve patient care.

Pendine Park, which runs six homes and a care training centre, developed the programme with the Healthcare Institute of Hyfinkää (corr sp) after meeting through another European training programme.

The first two Finnish exchange students and a nurse tutor are due to start at Pendine Park in October, with a second cohort due in March 2008. A group of Welsh nurses are expected to travel to Finland some time next summer.

Mario Kreft, Pendine Park proprietor, said: 'Apart from the obvious benefits of sharing good practice, I think these things are good for motivation and building confidence of staff.'
