Macmillan’s London Buddy scheme

People living with cancer tell us how isolating it can feel, especially without family or friends nearby.

They fear asking too much of those close to them.

Macmillan’s London Buddies are Macmillan trained volunteers in Camden, Enfield, Greenwich, Haringey, Islington, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. They offer a listening ear, help with light housework or getting outside, and also signpost to Macmillan services, as well as other community-based organisations and projects.

Someone who recently had support from the scheme told us, ‘I really appreciate it, I was very alone; my Buddy provides the support I need to go out, to talk about cancer in confidence, it’s so important. My family worry, but I need to talk about what’s in my head.’

If you would like to refer someone for a Buddy within London, please email: Londondvsa@macmillan.org.uk
