Making money one less worry: household costs

An estimated 320,000 people with cancer are unable to keep up with housing payments, and almost 400,000 struggle to pay bills because of their diagnosis1

Many people are not aware of the impact cancer can have on their finances and how their circumstances can change over time. Check in with the people you support to ensure they know what’s available to them – for example, specialist benefits advice or help with making informed decisions on financial products and services.

The expert teams on Macmillan Support Line (0808 808 00 00) include financial guides and energy advisors who can provide information and support with managing rent, mortgage repayments and council tax, as well as how to make adaptations at home or get specialist equipment. They can also help answer questions and guide people through their options around keeping energy bills down, taxes and banking.

We’ve also produced a video which helps to explain ways to manage energy bills when you have cancer which the people you support may find helpful.
