Not everyone living with cancer will be able, or want to, work but 87% of people employed when diagnosed say continuing to work is important. For many, work helps with a sense of normality, positivity and self-esteem.
Our new resource, Top Tips for Supporting Patients with Work, provides ten tips to help you have conversations with your patients about work and cancer. It signposts to further support, including Macmillan’s Work Support Service.
The Work Support Service provides information and guidance on talking to employers, negotiating adjustments at work, sick pay and taking time off after a cancer diagnosis. It can also refer people with more complex needs to one-off legal advice. It is available Monday-Friday, 8am – 6pm on 0808 808 0000.
