Updated UK guidelines on malaria prevention and treatment have been published.

The guidelines state that management of malaria depends on awareness of the diagnosis and performing the correct diagnostic tests.

There are no typical clinical features of malaria and not even fever is always present. The optimum diagnostic test is examination of thick and thin blood films by an expert to detect malarial parasites.
