I am glad that some critical thinking was utilised in this article. The study itself and the media attention it received is another example of sloppy journalism and irresponsible professionalism. The limitations of this study should be the most significant factor in its reporting.

  • Comment on: The big question: should wards report on staffing levels daily?

    Marie Anna 's comment 20 September, 2013 10:38 am

I am surprised that staffing levels aren t noted previously. Of course, if understaffed , the Nurse in charge must document what he or she has done about it and to whom they escalated the problem to. An incident form must be completed . But reporting staffing levels is one thing, doing something about it is another! We have to be careful that this isnt simply another band aid! Nurses must stand up for the welfare and safety of themselves and their patients. The NMC will not tolerate excuses of too busy with numbers of patients, when you make a major drug error!

I really do not understand how this has received such media attention. I reckon its a case of islamophobia and its painful to observe. I have never encountered any health care professionals who wear the full veil in practice. I suspect the numbers are few and far between and ,in any case, should be managed locally. No doubt ,this may be seen an oppressive practice which will lead to more and more numbers wearing the veil. However, Communication and Infection Control would be concerns on my part.

  • Comment on: Do nurses need to be taught to introduce themselves?

    Marie Anna 's comment 17 September, 2013 5:05 pm

I agree with this article ,totally. In my second year ,as a student nurse, I had the opportunity to observe all members of the Multidiscilinary Team interact with patients. It was quite shocking and extremely disappointing that nurses and health care assistants were the group least likely to introduce themselves to patients.

  • Comment on: 'Close hospitals' to save the NHS, warn managers, doctors and patients

    Marie Anna 's comment 7 June, 2013 2:32 pm

It was the Labour government who revised GP working hours contracts and the result has been ridiculous! Of course, GP s should be open for longer and provide better access. Also, care in the community has to improve . Lots of hospital beds are filled with people who should and could be treated in their own homes. I do not understand why this is still being debated and there is no action.
