At least 20 cases of measles have been confirmed among the travelling community, the Health Protection Agency has warned.

At least 20 cases of measles have been confirmed among the travelling community, the Health Protection Agency has warned.

There have been at least 13 cases in London, six in the East of England and one in the South East. This represents nearly half of the measles cases confirmed this year in England and Wales.

Nurses in contact with traveller communities have been called on to promote MMR vaccination. Mary Ramsay, a consultant epidemiologist with the agency, said: Â'In this community MMR uptake is low. Parents should be reminded that it is never too late to get their child immunised with the MMR vaccine.Â'
