A forensic psychiatric unit is seeking nurses to work with low risk offenders with mental health problems.

The Linden unit, at Affinity Healthcare's St Georges Hospital near Darlington, will start taking low risk male and female offenders in September.

The 28-bed facility, which will accept referrals from the criminal justice system across the UK, wants to recruit several registered mental health nurses.

Hospital director Linda Stephens, said: 'We endeavour to recruit the best staff to help enhance the services we provide and at the same time offer the opportunity to work in a challenging and rewarding environment.'

Affinity Healthcare is a private organisation that works closely with the NHS to specialist provide mental health care.
