Mental health unit set to close

  • Comment
A pioneering mental health unit could temporarily close next week because of funding problems, NT has learnt.

South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust had planned to permanently close Henderson Hospital in Sutton, Surrey, late last year but was forced to hold a consultation before going ahead (NT News, 11 March, p5).

Last week a trust spokesperson said that it had now been decided that the hospital’s residential service ‘was no longer clinically viable’, following discussions between residents and clinicians.

‘The trust is commencing, from 14 April, a formal consultation with the Henderson’s staff on the temporary closure of the hospital,’ the spokesperson said.
